I got the red ring of death on my XBOX 360.?
On the ring of light a bright red light flashes in the bottom right section and a faint red in the upper right and lower left sections. The error is E 74 and I have tried unplugging my XBOX 360 and removing the hard drive. Nothing has worked. I don’t want to send my XBOX in and don’t want to spend money. But I’d rather buy a guide instead of sending it in and not getting it back for two months. Do you know any methods of fixing it? (Please don’t tell me the towel method.) Thank you for your help.
Believe it or not I got my XBOX last Christmas and got the red ring this Christmas. Is that bad luck?
that happened to my boyfriend just as well, there’s a video on youtube –sorry i cant remember it– that teaches you how to repair it.
Well there nothing you can do, if you had the the Xbox 360 for less than a year then Microsoft should repair it for free
Hi vsb1002,
You don’t have to live with the E74, Red Ring of Death (RROD)! I don’t think it is bad luck that you got it anyway.
In any case, there is a guide online that will teach you how to deal with the Red ring of death (RROD) in under an hour, at the comfort of your own home. You don’t have to ship your xbox around anymore.

Learning how to repair your XBox will save you a LOT of Money. Microsoft will not tell you how to fix these errors. They’ll ask you to send your system back to them for repair. The typical cost for a repair can be as much as $140 plus shipping and handling. Also – they do not always guarantee a fix!
Use this guide to repair your own XBox 360 – and save your $140 for games.
Yep, you are totally correct on the towel trick. It really can destroy your Xbox 360. This guide provides a comprehensive, permanent and safe methodology to solve the E74, RROD predicament.
